First things first

Supongo que lo primero que uno debe hacer cuando empieza a escribir un blog es presentarse, así que allá va:

Hola a todos los miembros y "miembras" de esta gran red llamada internet. Me llamo Herminia (esto es culpa de mi señora madre) pero podéis llamarme Hermi. Acabo de terminar el grado en Traducción e Interpretación en la Universidad de Málaga siguiendo la especialidad de interpretación simultánea. Ahora que he terminado de estudiar se me plantea la gran pregunta: "¿qué coño hago yo ahora con mi vida?". Para responder a esta pregunta he creado una de mis listas (dirigidas a mi yo del futuro) para empezar a organizarme (soy muy aficionada a las listas). La lista va tal que así:

1. Disfruta de unas merecidas vacaciones durante las cuales tendrás que ver toda película en francés habida y por haber para hacerte al idioma.

2. Prepara currículos en tus tres idiomas y según los puestos de trabajo que vayas a solicitar (aprende a maquetar en condiciones) y empieza a mandarlos.

3. Ahora que tienes tiempo, en lugar de dormir 12 horas al día, vaga de mierda, ponte las pilas y escribe un blog de traducción con todas las notas que tienes dando vueltas por tu habitación sobre cuestiones traductológicas (y no tan traductológicas).

4. Vete a trabajar a Francia nada más terminar tus vacaciones por un mínimo de 6 meses a ver si de una vez por todas pierdes ese horrible acento español (y puedes solicitar un Master de Interpretación de Conferencias en condiciones).

Bueno, eso es todo para empezar. Intentaré ir escribiendo con regularidad sobre cuestiones de lengua y traducción que se me vayan planteando (o se me hayan planteado).

So, I guess the first thing people ought to do when writing a blog is to introduce themselves so here it goes:

Greetings lovely people from the internet. My name is Herminia (that's my lady mother's fault) but you may call me Hermi. I just finished my degree in Translation and Interpreting at Malaga University, specializing in conference interpreting. Now that I'm done studying I need to ask myself: "What the fuck am I going to do with my life?". To answer this question I have created one of my lists (to my future self) so I can figure things out (I really love lists). This is my list:

1. Enjoy your well deserved holidays while you watch every single french movie there is to get a hang on the language.

2. Make CVs in all three languages you speak and according to the jobs you're going to apply for (learn how to edit them properly). Start sending them.

3. Now that you've got the time instead of sleeping 12 hours a day, you lazyass, wake up and start writing a blog about translation using all the little notes that you have sitting around in your room.

4. Go to France and start working there once you finish your holidays for at least 6 months so you can finally get rid of that awful spanish accent (and so you can apply for a proper Conference Interpreting MA).

Well, that's all for now. I'll try to write on a regular basis about language and translation.
